How to use the Pokémon generator
- Type how many Pokémon you want, from 1 to 50.
- Choose a generation, from Gen 1 to Gen 9, or leave it on "Any" for all 1,025.
- If you like, choose a first letter under "Starts with".
- Press Generate. Each name shows its generation next to it.
Press Copy list to paste the names into a chat or a note. Press "Spin these on the wheel" to let the wheel choose one of them, which is more fun when friends are watching.
Ideas for random Pokémon
- Random team challenge: generate six Pokémon and play through a game using only that team.
- One generation only: pick a generation for an extra twist, such as a team made only of Gen 3 Pokémon.
- Drawing game: generate one name and draw it from memory in two minutes, then compare drawings with friends.
- Guess who: one player generates a secret Pokémon and the others ask yes or no questions until they guess it.
- Trivia night: spin the wheel and ask the person it lands on to name the Pokémon's type.
Generations
The generator sorts every Pokémon into the generation it first appeared in. Generation 1 holds the first 151, from Bulbasaur to Mew. The newest generation on the list, Generation 9, ends with Pecharunt. The Generation filter and the Gen quick lists on the wheel use the same grouping.
A whole generation is too many names to read on the wheel, so the slices hide their labels. The picked Pokémon still shows in large text in the pop-up. For a wheel you can read, generate six to twelve names and put those on the wheel.
Names only, made by fans
This page lists names and nothing else. There are no pictures, sprites, logos or official fonts, and no game text. Spin a Name is not affiliated with Nintendo, Game Freak or The Pokémon Company. Pokémon and the Pokémon names are trademarks of their owners. Where the list of names comes from is shown under the wheel.
Fair picks
Every Pokémon has the same chance, whether it is famous or one most people have forgotten. The picks come from your browser’s secure random numbers, so nothing is weighted toward popular choices. Each list has no repeats, but two lists in a row can share a name. If you want a new set, press Generate again.
