Set up your class in one minute
- Copy your class list from your register or a spreadsheet, and paste it into the entry box. One name per line.
- Type the class name as the wheel title, such as “Year 7 Science” or “Room 12”.
- Open the Saved tab and save the wheel with the class name. Do this once for each class you teach.
Next lesson, load the class from the Saved tab and you are ready to go.
Calling on students fairly
When names come from a wheel, students know anyone could be next, so everyone stays ready to think. It also shows the choice is not personal. A few habits make it work well:
- Ask the question first, give thinking time, then spin. That way every student works out an answer, not just the one who gets picked.
- Use Remove and spin again so everyone gets a turn before anyone goes twice.
- Let students say “pass, and come back to me”, so a spin never feels like a trap.
- Mix it up. Sometimes spin for a pair to answer together.
Tips for younger classes
With younger children, keep the wheel to the group you are working with rather than the whole class. Say the picked name warmly, and give the child a moment before they answer. If a child is shy, let them choose a buddy to help. Celebrate good tries as well as right answers, so the wheel feels like a game and never like a test.
Use it on the big screen
Press Full screen to fill your projector or smart board with the wheel. The picked name shows in large letters the back row can read. The tick sound builds suspense; switch it off with the Sound button if you prefer a quiet room.
More ways to use the wheel in class
- Choose helpers for the week with the Class jobs quick list.
- Set the order for presentations, removing each name as it is called.
- Pick a brain break: load the Brain breaks list and spin when energy dips.
- Split the class into groups with the random team generator.
- Pick a letter for a spelling game with the letter wheel.
Keep a record
The Results tab lists every name picked, with the time. Copy it into your notes if you want to track who has answered. At the start of a new lesson, press Clear results to start fresh.
Student privacy
Names stay on your device. We never upload your class list, and there is nothing to sign up for. For extra privacy, use first names only, or first names with a last initial. If you share a wheel link, remember that the names travel inside the link, so only send it to people who should see them.
