About Spin a Name
A spinning wheel that loads fast, picks fairly and stays out of your way.
Why we made it
Spinning a wheel should take one tap. Yet many wheel sites load slowly, bury the wheel under clutter, or ask you to sign up before you can save a list. We built Spin a Name to do the simple thing well: type your choices, spin, and see the result in big, clear letters.
What we care about
- Speed. Pages are small and the wheel is drawn by your browser, so it opens quickly even on an older phone or a slow school network.
- Fair picks. Every result comes from your browser’s built-in cryptographic random number generator. Each entry on the wheel has exactly the same chance, and the animation is set up to land on the result that was picked.
- Privacy. There are no accounts. Your lists, saved wheels and results stay in your browser. Share links carry the wheel inside the link itself.
- Less clutter. The wheel is the main thing on every page. Ads, when we show them, sit below the wheel and never cover it.
- Accessibility. The whole tool works with a keyboard, the controls have clear labels for screen readers, and the colours are chosen for strong contrast in light and dark mode.
Who uses it
Teachers use it to call on students and hand out class jobs. Families use it to share out chores and settle what is for dinner. People running giveaways use it to draw a winner in front of their followers. Friends use it to decide who goes first. There are 11 ready-made wheels to start from, and a blank wheel for everything else.
How the site is paid for
Spin a Name is free to use. To cover the cost of running it, the site may show ads from Google. Ads never decide or change a result, and they are kept away from the wheel. Our privacy policy explains how ads and cookies work and how to opt out of personalised ads.
Credits
Headings and the wheel’s labels use the Fredoka typeface, shared under the SIL Open Font License. Everything else on the site, from the wheel to the words, was made for Spin a Name.
