How to use the movie generator
- Choose how many films you want. Three is a good start for a group.
- If you like, choose a decade, such as the 1980s.
- Press Generate. Each film shows the year it came out.
- Still can’t agree? Press "Spin these on the wheel" and let the wheel make the final call.
The generator picks from 500 well-known films. Each list has no repeats, and pressing Generate again gives a fresh set.
A fair way to choose movie night
Choosing a film can take longer than watching one. A random pick ends the scrolling and the "you choose, no, you choose" back and forth. Here are a few ways to use it:
- Veto round: generate three films. Each person can cross off one, and you watch whatever is left.
- Decade night: pick a decade and watch something older than usual.
- Family turns: each person types one film onto the wheel, then you spin to choose.
- Watch list challenge: generate ten films and see how many you have already seen.
Using the movie wheel
The wheel starts with a mix of ten films from across the list. The quick lists above the entry box load all the films from one decade. Long titles are shortened on the slices, but the full title and year always show in the pop-up after a spin.
You can also build your own wheel. Type the films your group is choosing between, one per line, and spin. Save it in the Saved tab, or press Share link so everyone sees the same wheel on their own phone.
About the list
The list holds titles and release years only. There are no posters, no plot summaries and no ratings, and nothing is copied from film sites. Where the list comes from is shown under the wheel. Because the list is made of well-known films, most of them are easy to find to rent or stream, but what you can watch depends on where you live.
The list includes films for every age, including some that are for adults only. If children are watching, check the age rating first, or put only family films on the wheel yourself.
Fair picks
