Privacy policy
Last updated: 5 October 2026
The short version
- You do not need an account, and we never ask for your name or email to use the site.
- The entries you type stay in your browser. We do not upload them.
- The site may show ads from Google, which can use cookies. You can turn off personalised ads at any time.
- We may count visits with a privacy-friendly analytics tool that does not use cookies.
This policy explains what information is handled when you use Spin a Name at spinaname.app (“the site”, “we”, “us”). It covers the wheel tools, the team generator and every other page on the site.
What you type into the tools
The names, choices and titles you type into a wheel or the team generator are handled entirely by your own browser. They are not sent to us or stored on our servers. The random picks are also made in your browser.
Information stored on your device
To make the tools easier to use, the site saves some information in your browser’s local storage, on your device only:
- Wheels you choose to save, with their titles, entries and colours.
- Your recent results on each wheel page.
- Your last wheel on the home page and your last list in the team generator, so they are still there when you come back.
- Whether you turned the sound on or off.
We cannot see or read this information. You can delete it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for this site. Using a private or incognito window means it is removed when you close that window.
Share links
When you press Share link, the site packs your wheel’s title, entries and colours into the link itself, after the # sign. Browsers do not send that part of a link to the website’s server, so we do not receive your entries when someone opens the link. Anyone who has the link can see the wheel, so only share it with people who should see what is on it.
Information collected when you visit
Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically processes basic technical information when your browser loads a page. This includes your IP address, the type of browser and device you use, the page you asked for, the site that linked you to us and the time of the request. This information is used to deliver the site, keep it secure and fix problems. We do not use it to identify you.
Analytics
We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages are useful. It does not use cookies, does not track you across other websites and does not build a profile about you. It records things like the page visited, the referring site, the browser type and the country, in a form that does not identify you personally.
Advertising and cookies
The site may show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and other third-party ad companies may use cookies, web beacons and similar technologies to show ads, measure how ads perform and prevent fraud.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this site and to other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies lets Google and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of some other companies’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info (in the United States) or youronlinechoices.eu (in Europe).
If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they will be less related to your interests. Ads that are not personalised may still use cookies to limit how often you see the same ad, to count views and to fight fraud.
You can read how Google uses information from sites that show its ads at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you may see a message asking for your consent before cookies are used for ads. You can change your choice at any time using the link that message provides. In some US states, you may see an option to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for advertising.
Managing cookies in your browser
Cookies are small text files that websites store in your browser. Most browsers let you see, block and delete cookies in their settings. The wheel and the other tools keep working if you block cookies, although you may see less relevant ads.
Children
The site is made for a general audience, and teachers often use it in class on a shared screen. We do not ask for, or knowingly collect, personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, for example by email, contact us and we will delete it.
Emailing us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and to improve the site, and we do not sell it or add you to a mailing list.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to some uses of it. Because the tools keep your entries on your own device, we usually hold nothing about you apart from any emails you send us. To make a request, email us at the address below.
Links to other websites
Some pages link to other websites. We are not responsible for how those websites handle your information, so please read their privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the site changes, for example when we start or stop using a service mentioned above. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
